Michele O’Brien has something unique to offer the Early Years. Her imaginative skill to capture the inspiration of the very young and move beyond to a world where anything is possible means Michele O’Brien has been able to work developmentally on interesting projects. Introducing drama through story, with the techniques developed by Vivian Gussin- Paley: scribing a story for a child and using it as an opportunity to value, how the developing child uses very naturally, fantasy play, into a story square or theatre space and as an audience, invite the other children, who find great pleasure sharing story, to engage in learning. Realising their own potential to be the lead part in their own story encourages even the very shy to find a voice.
Michele O’Brien has worked for Bournemouth, Poole and Southampton Borough Councils.
As part of the Cultural Hub project, partnering Arts organisations, museums and artists in Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset Michele worked with experienced Early years artist Teresa Grimaldi, puppeteer and visual artist, which has developed into a growing working relationship. Michele O’Brien has been storyteller at Lighthouse since May 2010.
Michele O’Brien can offer inspiring and active practitioner training, specialising in storytelling and the story square.
Babigloo – Music for Babies
Babigloo - Music for Babies is a project which delivers therapeutic music led sessions to parents and babies 0-12 months. The sessions are all non verbal, using vocal and musical rhythms combining classical music and theatre. They are based on an approach by Edwin Gordon which we have studied with SAMP music school in Leiria, Portugal.
Babigloo sessions are supported by Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and delivered by Michele O’Brien with Colin Phillimore and Jenny Gordon.
